Bodywork

A directory of practitioners who work with the body through movement, breath and attention to sensation — from qigong and the Feldenkrais Method to floating. Compare practices, city and price, then contact the practitioner directly.

What bodywork means here

Bodywork, or somatic practice, covers sessions where you learn to notice and change how you move, breathe and hold your body. In most of them you take an active part: you repeat movements, breathing exercises or positions with a practitioner guiding you. That sets them apart from classic massage, where the client mostly lies down while the therapist works with their hands. RelaxIOhub does not run sessions: this page lists practitioner profiles, and each practitioner describes their own method, format and price.

Practices in the directory

Breath and body awareness

Sessions focused on breathing, tension and bodily sensation.

Movement and posture

Slow movement systems and work on posture, flexibility and coordination.

Sensory and ritual treatments

Treatments where you mostly lie down and rest rather than exercise.

  • Floating

An hour of weightlessness in a skin-temperature Epsom-salt pod or pool with light and sound shut out.

  • Shirodhara

Traditional Ayurvedic procedure in which a warm stream of herbal or sesame oil flows steadily onto the forehead while you rest.

Methods with a medical component

Interventions where checking the practitioner's training and credentials matters most.

  • Manual Therapy

Hands-on work with joint, spinal and ligament mobility. Book only with a medically trained specialist after sharing recent imaging.

  • Acupuncture

Placement of sterile fine needles at specific points on the body, often chosen for chronic muscle tension, migraines and sleep issues.

  • Hirudotherapy

Application of single-use, lab-raised medicinal leeches by a trained specialist. Requires checking contraindications and blood work beforehand.

How to choose a practitioner

  1. Decide on the format: an active session with movement or breathing, or a treatment where you rest lying down.

  2. On the profile, check where the practitioner trained in the method, how the first session works, how long it lasts and where it takes place.

  3. Message the practitioner before booking: describe your goal, injuries or health conditions and ask whether the format suits you.

When to talk to a doctor first

Manual therapy, acupuncture and hirudotherapy are interventions with a medical component. Before booking, ask about the practitioner's medical training and the documents that allow them to perform the procedure. If you have acute pain, a recent injury, are pregnant or live with a chronic condition, discuss any bodywork with your doctor. None of the practices in this directory replace diagnosis or treatment.

Questions about bodywork

In a massage the therapist works on your body with their hands while you mostly lie down. In most bodywork practices you move, breathe or hold positions yourself while the practitioner demonstrates and corrects. There are exceptions, such as floating or shirodhara, where you also rest lying down.

The terms are often used interchangeably. In the directory, “Somatic Practices” is also a separate item for practitioners who work with body awareness without tying it to one named method.

Standard stretching and exercise therapy focus on repetitions or reaching further. Feldenkrais and the Alexander Technique use small, effortless movements to help your nervous system drop unnecessary muscular resistance when you sit, stand or turn.

Qigong is simpler to start with because individual movements are short and repeated in place. Tai chi links postures into a longer flowing sequence that asks for more coordination, weight shifting and memory.

Practitioners who have published a profile on RelaxIOhub and listed at least one bodywork practice. The same person may also work as a massage therapist or psychologist, in which case their profile appears in those sections too.

Each row shows the hourly rate the practitioner set on their profile. Session length, group or one-to-one format and home visits are agreed directly with the practitioner.
